Traceability is a business process that enables trading partners to follow products as they move from the field to retail store or food service operator. Each Traceability Partner must be able to identify the direct source (supplier) and the direct recipient (customer) of the product.
Traceability as a business process can be utilized for a variety of business purposes, including:
Product Recalls/Market Withdrawals;
Regulatory Compliance;
Public Health Trace-backs;
Food Safety and Quality Assurance; and
Process and Order Management.
The first priority of traceability is to protect the consumer through faster and precise identification of a product under review. This is critical if the product is required to be withdrawn from the supply chain.
